On April 21, a public open house was held at Paloma Mizuho Stadium, giving local residents and visitors a chance to explore the newly renovated stadium before the busy international sports schedule ahead.

The stadium recently completed a major renovation project as the main venue for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games and the Asian Para Games. It has already started hosting matches for Nagoya Grampus, making it one of the most talked-about sports venues in Nagoya right now.

A Relaxed Open House Atmosphere

Staff members were waiting near Gate 1, and the entry process was smooth and well organized.

To protect the natural grass, visitors were not allowed directly onto the pitch itself, and barriers had been placed around the field. However, guests could walk all the way around the track surrounding the pitch, which still offered an impressive close-up view of the stadium.

Temporary stairs had also been prepared so visitors could climb into the seating areas and enjoy the panoramic view from the stands.

The atmosphere felt very family-friendly. Many parents came with their children, and kids were happily running around the stadium enjoying the open space.

A Modern Stadium with Warm Wooden Design

From the seating area, visitors could fully appreciate the massive scale of the pitch and the stadium itself. One thing that immediately stood out was the large number of advertisements from NGK, a major company based in Mizuho Ward.

Inside the stadium, some of the wooden benches were made using trees that originally grew around the old stadium site. It is a small detail, but it gives the venue a warm and local character despite its modern appearance.

From the outside, the stadium’s signature wooden exterior decoration is especially eye-catching. Some visitors may notice similarities to IG Arena, the new arena designed by architect Kengo Kuma. Although the designers are different, both buildings share a modern Japanese architectural style that incorporates natural wood elements.

More Than Just a Stadium

The newly renovated area is not only about sports. The surrounding park spaces have also been beautifully redeveloped, creating one of the nicest walking areas in Nagoya.

Right now, everything still feels brand new and spotless, which makes this probably the best time to visit and experience the atmosphere for yourself. Even if you are not attending a football match, the stadium and park are well worth a stroll if you are exploring Nagoya.
