Highly recommended for those looking to explore near Nagoya Station.
Got off the Shinkansen at Nagoya Station and wondering what to do next? The station buildings may feel similar to those in Tokyo or Osaka. If you’re looking to step out of the station and explore some uniquely Japanese spots nearby, here’s a list of recommended places for a short walk and cultural experience.
Shikemichi
Shikemichi is a historic area near Nagoya Station that miraculously escaped damage during the U.S. air raids in World War II. As a result, many historical buildings remain intact. It’s just a 15-minute walk from Nagoya Station, making it a convenient spot for visitors.
Endoji shopping street
The Endoji Shopping Street developed after the end of World War II and retains the atmosphere of the 1970s and 1980s. In recent years, the area has been hosting events to attract visitors, gradually bringing in more people. Unique cafes and bars designed to match the old townscape have also opened, making it an interesting area to explore. During weekday daytime hours, the street is relatively quiet. Since it connects to Shikemichi, you can start by visiting Shikemichi, then head to Endoji Shopping Street, and finally return to Nagoya Station for a stroll that takes about an hour.
Noritake Garden
The Noritake Garden is a park developed on the former factory site of Noritake Company Limited. Since it was a ceramics factory, brick-built kilns and chimneys have been preserved. The brick structures are now repurposed as museums, ceramic shops, and restaurants. The park is about a 15-minute walk from Nagoya Station, making it a convenient spot for a one-hour round trip if you only explore the park and return. You can also grab a light meal at the nearby Aeon Mall.
