You can see sakuras in Nagoya from February
When it comes to cherry blossoms, the most famous variety is called Somei Yoshino. In Nagoya, it usually reaches full bloom from late March to the first week of April. However, there are other types of cherry blossoms that bloom even earlier, and they are also planted within Nagoya City.
Siki zakura in Naya Bridge in February
Around Nayabashi, which is about a 10-minute walk from Nagoya Station, there are cherry trees of the Shikizakura variety planted. This type of cherry blossom blooms twice a year, in spring and from autumn to winter. I visited on February 1st, and they were in full bloom. Since it’s the middle of winter and very cold, it feels quite strange to see them.
Okan zakura in shinsakae near takaoka Station
The Okanzakura is a type of cherry blossom that usually reaches full bloom around mid-March in Nagoya. It is planted along the road from Takaoka Station to Futaba museum. This area is a hidden cherry blossom spot, so I highly recommend it. After enjoying the cherry blossoms on the way from Takaoka Station, it’s also a good idea to visit Futaba museum and Shumoku museum.
