The café was named AOI CELESTIE COFFEE ROASTERY because it is located in Aoi-cho, Shinsakae. In the Edo period, this area was home to a secondary residence of the Owari Tokugawa family, whose family crest featured the hollyhock (aoi) motif. That’s how the neighborhood came to be called Aoi-cho.
Access and Basic Information
AOI CELESTIE COFFEE ROASTERY is conveniently located near Shinsakae-machi Station on the Nagoya City Subway Higashiyama Line. It’s just a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of the station.
From here, I’ll use the photos I took to introduce and explain the café.
I visited AOI CELESTIE COFFEE ROASTERY on a weekday afternoon and ordered a Tap Coffee for 400 yen. As shown in the photo above, when you place your cup on the coffee server, the coffee is automatically poured.
I decided to sit on the second floor. There were about 10 customers in the café. The coffee had a nice, balanced acidity — the taste was somewhat similar to the coffee at 7-Eleven.
There’s also a small outdoor terrace. It’s a bit narrow, but it would be a comfortable spot in spring or autumn.
The basement serves as an event space. It seems that sports like boccia, which is also a Paralympic event, are held there as well.
