Hidden Temple near Shikemichi
If you come to Nagoya Station, be sure to visit Shikemichi. It’s one of the few streets in Nagoya where historic buildings and traditional scenery are well-preserved. Senshu-ji is a temple located near Shikemichi. Its gate and bell tower have remained unchanged since the Edo period, making them highly valuable historical structures. I recently visited Senshu-ji, so I’d like to share my experience.
The history of Senshu-ji is detailed on a signboard in front of the gate. It seems that the temple was indeed affected by air raids. The main hall was burned down during the bombings.
Here is the gate. There’s a blue tarp attached to the side for maintenance.
The bell tower has a similar appearance to the one at Nishi Betsuin.
