Review of Compass Hotel Nagoya

If you’re looking for a clean, newly renovated hotel within walking distance of Nagoya Station, Compass Hotel Nagoya is a great option. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the station, tucked away in a quiet area but still close to many local attractions and restaurants.

One of the best things about the location is its proximity to Yanagibashi Central Market, a lively seafood market where you can find some of the freshest sushi and seafood restaurants in the city. This area is perfect for travelers who want to experience a bit of the local food culture without going too far.

The hotel itself was renovated in November 2024, so the interiors feel clean, modern, and fresh. The first-floor lobby serves as both a breakfast area and a café space, open to guests throughout the day. One thing I really liked was that guests can enjoy free coffee from the coffee machine anytime, which makes it a cozy spot to relax or start your day.

For digital nomads or anyone working on the go, this café space also has free power outlets, so it’s convenient for doing computer work or checking emails while sipping your coffee.

I stayed in a twin room, which was admittedly quite compact—typical of Japanese business hotels—but perfectly functional for a short stay. If you’re mainly using the room for sleeping, you won’t have any issues. The bathroom and toilet are in the standard Japanese business hotel style—compact but clean and practical.

The neighborhood around Compass Hotel offers plenty of restaurant choices, so you’ll never run out of places to eat. One of my recommendations is the salad buffet at the nearby Ibis Styles Hotel, available at lunchtime for around 1,500 yen, where you can enjoy all-you-can-eat salad and bread.

For something more local, Misen in Yanagibashi is a popular Chinese restaurant among Nagoya locals, known for its spicy Taiwanese ramen and flavorful dishes.

If you happen to visit on the fourth Friday of the month, take a short five-minute walk to Nayabashi, where a lively night market is held along the river. It’s a great place to experience local street food and enjoy the evening atmosphere.
