Industrial heritage site in Nagoya

Matsushige Lock is a historic water gate in Nagoya, built in 1926. It once connected rivers for boat transport. Now preserved as an industrial heritage site, it features scenic views and retro architecture. It’s a quiet spot, perfect for a peaceful walk or photo stop.

I visited the Matsushige Lock when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom in April. There are two locks, and the area around the northern lock has been turned into a park. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and I was able to take beautiful photos.

Beyond the northern lock, the Tokaido Shinkansen runs. Although it’s not visible in this photo, I was able to capture a video of the Shinkansen passing behind the lock. The lock is a bit far from the station, but I recommend walking from Higashi Betsuin through Teramachi(temple town).
