Hidden Shopping Street loved by the locals

Fushimi Underground Shopping Street is a passageway lined with restaurants, cafes, and bars located near Nagoya’s Fushimi Station. I thought it might be hard to visualize, so I took some photos. Since it was a weekday morning, many of the shops were still closed. In the evening, many of the restaurants and bars open up, and a lot of locals gather there. The atmosphere of the street feels like Japan in the 80s, and both the locals and I love the nostalgic vibe of Fushimi Underground Shopping Street. Although most of the customers are Japanese, the staff are friendly, so you can enjoy your time even if you don’t speak Japanese. However, keep in mind that many places only accept cash, so be sure to bring Japanese yen with you.

Fushimi Underground Shopping Street is connected to Fushimi Station underground, but even for a local like me, it’s difficult to navigate from the station. There are entrances that connect the underground street directly to the surface, making it more convenient to enter from there. I’ll include the location and a photo of one of these entrances.
There are many restaurants.

For those who still can’t get a sense of the atmosphere of Fushimi Underground Shopping Street, here are some photos. As I mentioned earlier, since it was a weekday morning, not many shops were open.

This bar, which specializes in Japanese sake, was getting ready to open.

There is also a restaurant that serves okonomiyaki.
HANDSOME BURGERS

A recommended spot in Fushimi Underground Shopping Street is Handsome Burger. The owner trained in the USA, so you can enjoy authentic American-style hamburgers there.

The menu is written in English, so ordering is easy for non-Japanese.

I ordered the Handsome Combo Set, which includes a Handsome Burger, a medium size French fries, and a drink.

Fushimi Underground Shopping Street has a variety of restaurants, so you can stop by and order at interesting places like this. Just be aware that the entrances can be hard to find and many places only accept cash.
