Meijo Park
Meijo Park is located to the north of Nagoya Castle and is well-known as a popular spot for cherry blossoms. Many people visit, and it’s a great place for a stroll after visiting Nagoya Castle.
Hisaya Odori Park
Located in Nagoya’s downtown area of Sakae, this park stretches for 2 kilometers. The centrally located TV Tower is the symbol of Sakae. The northern area is quieter and less crowded, making it a great spot to visit. There are also plenty of cafes around the park, adding to its appeal. I enjoy working on my computer at cafes around Hisaya Odori Park and often visit them. The cafes I frequently go to are as follows.
Flarie
This park is located at the southern end of Hisaya Odori Park. It is very well-maintained and serves as a peaceful retreat for the city’s residents.
Tsuruma Park
Tsuruma Park is also known as a popular cherry blossom viewing spot. During the cherry blossom season, many people visit, and food stalls line the area. However, it can get a bit noisy and bustling. Within the park grounds is Nagoya’s largest library. Most of the books are in Japanese, but it’s an ideal place for those who want to study.
Shichirino Watari Park
The Tokaido, an old road connecting Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto, had a ferry terminal along the section where the route crossed the sea. That former ferry terminal location has since been turned into a park. Although some of the original buildings remain, it might feel a bit dull for international visitors. I wouldn’t recommend going just to see this park. It’s better to visit as a relaxing walk after sightseeing at Atsuta Shrine.
Noritake garden
Noritake, the ceramics manufacturer, created a park on the site of its former factory. It has a calm atmosphere, making it a great place to relax. There is also a store selling Noritake’s high-end ceramics, making it a recommended spot for purchasing souvenirs from Nagoya.
Nakamura Park
Next to Toyokuni Shrine, which was built at the supposed birthplace of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, there is a park loved by the locals. It has a relaxed atmosphere, where time seems to flow at a leisurely pace.
Yokiso
Yokiso are a villa and a garden built in Nagoya 100 years ago by a wealthy Japanese businessman. It is tucked away in an upscale residential area, making it a hidden gem. The autumn foliage season is especially recommended for visiting.
Kasadera Park
Kasadera Park is a beloved local park situated on a small hill. It is known for two historical landmarks. The first is a group of archaeological sites from the Yayoi period (about 2,000 years ago), where pottery and remains of ancient dwellings have been excavated. The second is the remnants of an anti-aircraft platform from World War II, which can still be viewed today.
