Kyushu udon restaurant Newly Opend in 2024
I visited a udon restaurant that opened in December 2024. It’s located in Endoji Shopping Street. The restaurant is called Takanekoya, though I’m not sure what the name means. It’s a udon shop from Kitakyushu. While Kagawa is famous for udon, Kyushu-style udon has been gaining popularity recently. A key feature is that the noodles are softer compared to those from Kagawa.

The interior of the restaurant has a café-like design. Since it just opened, everything is clean and fresh. As it was Saturday lunchtime, the group tables were fully occupied, and there was a queue. Since I was alone, I was seated at the counter.

There is a menu, but it wasn’t available in English. That said, I think international visitors could manage somehow. I ordered a warm udon dish with burdock tempura.

The burdock tempura was crispy and delicious. The udon was softer than the ones I usually eat, but it still had a nice chewiness and a smooth texture that went down easily. The broth had a strong fish-based flavor and was very tasty.
